Dateline: Amity, Maine:

Jonathan W. McCormick, age 34, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at his home in Amity, Maine.  Jonathan was born on April 19, 1990 to Deborah McCormick, Waterford, NY and Daniel (Dee) McCormick, Charleston, South Carolina.  Jon graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 2008 before attending Clinton Community College for one year and then joining the US Marine Corps from 2009-2013.  He was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, briefly in the Philippines for a humanitarian mission, and he also did a tour in Afghanistan (USMC-11) during Operation Enduring Freedom.  Jonathan was extremely proud of his service to our country, and to bear the title of Marine. After being honorably discharged in 2013 with his rank as corporal, he received Automotive Technician and Automotive Body Repair degrees from Hudson Valley Community College.

In addition to his parents, Jonathan is survived by his beloved wife, Samantha McCormick, and their children Jasper, Amelia, Elinore, and their unborn son, Atlas.  He also leaves behind Blake, his daughter from his first marriage to Meghan McCormick, a stepson, Maximilian Sanderson, along with his beloved service dog Zoey.  Additionally, Jon is survived by brothers Christopher (Jamie) and Nathan, and his nephew, Jordy, and niece, Charley.  He also leaves behind his grandfather, Robert Snyder, Sr., and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jonathan is predeceased by paternal grandparents, Daniel and Julia McCormick, maternal grandmother, Helen Snyder, his Uncle Mike McCormick, and cousin, Jared McCormick.

While in high school, Jon took part in school plays and also played an array of youth sports, but his favorite was lacrosse, which he helped petition to bring to Lansingburgh High.  Jon also loved to downhill ski.

Jon loved his wife and his children fiercely.  He and his wife had recently purchased land in Maine where they were building their dream homestead with their children.  Jonathan was a huge history buff, and loved to read books on inspiring figures, including Theodore Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.  He was also passionate about helping the people around him. Jon was a volunteer firefighter for the Clifton Park Fire Department briefly, and he was very proud of his ability to help others in need. His infectious smile and ability to strike up a conversation with literally anyone will always be remembered.

Jon belonged to a support group through the Albany Vet Center.  Special thanks to the members of the American Legion in Houlton, ME and the wonderful people from the Albany Vet Center for all of their support for Jon during his times of need, in addition to the help and support they’ve provided to his family.
