Our sincerest condolences on the passing of Jon. As new friends in your Maine community, we were looking forward to more play groups, get togethers, and the conversations where we both commiserate and cheer our homesteading journeys. It’s a breath of fresh air to meet like-minded people with grit and the pioneer spirit. Every conversation was a gift.
Heath, in particular, was always excited to see Jon “another Dad” at functions and hear how the homestead was coming along and catch up on life.
We grieve with your family and will continue to pray through this season.

John and I met at a group for combat veterans with PTSD through the vet center. At the vet center there is a lot of posters, memorabilia, and artwork made by vets. Right outside the room where we used to meet there was a piece of artwork some vet made long ago. I’ve thought about that framed drawing a lot over the last week or so. We couldn’t walk into or out of our group without seeing. It was a drawing of a soldier and a pitbull and underneath it said two misunderstood breeds. That’s what men like John are. That’s what all combat vets are. We are a misunderstood breed. Please consider calling or writing your senator or congressman or even the President. Remind them as I’m reminding you now. 22 veterans a day commit suicide that’s 22 people like John everyday. That’s 22 funerals like I attended today. 22 families grieving. We have to get this to stop. It will only stop when America and her leaders make it a priority. That will only happen if We The People demand it.

I met Jon in Japan where we were stationed around 2011.
We became friends almost instantly.
We explored Japan together and went to watch many Hiroshima Carps games. I wasn't much into baseball back then but I learned a whole lot from Jon.
We got lucky and and we're both stationed in North Carolina after we left Japan and our friendship cemented.
I can proudly say Jon was my best friend. Although after we got out of the Marine Corps we didn't live close, we were always just a phone call away.
Jon was always there for me through the highs and lows of life. No matter the situation in life he would call me or I would call him. Then he moved his family out to Nevada I got the opportunity to work beside him once again.
I will never forget the many memories we created over the years and the bond we built together.
Your were the greatest friend a man could ever ask for in this life.
I will never forget the sound of your voice or the warmth of your embrace.
I love you Jon and will miss you.
Till Vahalla Brother!

I coached Jonathan in baseball. Jonathan was fun to have around. He was always joking around and quite honestly he got on my nerves more than once. That being said he became one of my favorite players/people ever. Rest in peace buddy.
