Obituary of Catherine J. Turgeon
Catherine J. "Kay" Hofmann Turgeon, 95, beloved wife of over 57 years of the late Leo Turgeon, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
Born in Troy on December 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Grace Timmer Hofmann and resided in Schenectady most of her younger years.
Catherine worked at G.E. in Schenectady for five years and for fourteen years at S.A.B. Sportswear in Troy. After she married Leo, they moved to Lansingburgh, where they ran the Grandview Tavern.
She was a communicant of the former St. Bonaventure’s Church (presently Transfiguration Parish) in Speigletown and a member of their former Women's Club and of the Noble-Callahan American Legion Post, having been very active in both clubs. Kay loved to sing and dance.
In addition to her late husband, Leo, she was the devoted mother of Anthony (Tony) Turgeon, the late William (Willie) Turgeon and the late Paula Turgeon DeCitise, grandmother of Chris and Chad Turgeon, Charles DeCitise, Jr., Aimee MacNary, Nicole Patrick and Vanessa Turgeon; great grandmother of Katelyn Turgeon, Ethan Patrick, Reed Patrick, Ace Bessette, Jake MacNary, Alyssa and Olivia DeCitise, sister of the late Grace Hofmann Duclos, Allen Hofmann and Arthur Hofmann;
half-sister of the late, Isabella Oliver, Viola Butter and Leona Ferbert; Catherine was the last one of the family living. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many very good friends.
Funeral will be held on Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh thence to Transfiguration Parish (formerly St. Bonaventure’s Church in Speigletown), 50 Hillview Dr., Troy, NY 12182 where at 12:00 noon the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to Transfiguration Parish Memorial Fund, 50 Hillview Drive, Troy, NY 12182 in memory of Catherine "Kay" Turgeon.
