Joseph R. “Ron” Mitchell, 66, of Pleasantdale, Town of Schaghticoke, son of Ernest “Sonny” Mitchell, Jr., and the late Shirley Delisle Mitchell, passed away at Samaritan Hospital on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Born on January 12, 1959, in Canton, NY, Ron was educated at St. Lawrence Central High School in Brasher Falls, NY. For the past 25 plus years, Ron worked at Jimmy’s Pizzeria in Lansingburgh as a delivery driver as well as helping prepare customers’ orders.
Ron enjoyed playing Spades and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees. Most of all, he loved visiting his daughter, Amber, and granddaughters, Madison and McKenize, in Texas. He would get a new cowboy hat every time he visited and wore it proudly.
Ron is survived by his beloved children Amber (Jeremiah Smith) Atkins and Cory Mitchell, grandchildren Madison and McKenzie Atkins, father Ernest “Sonny” Mitchell, Jr., and stepmother Sue Mitchell, adopted siblings Kevin Mitchell and Brianna (Brandon Durant) Mitchell, step-siblings Heather Fukes and Chris (Karen) Fukes, and nephews Chase Smith and Cameron Fukes. He is preceded in death by his brother Ernest Mitchell, III, son Brett Alan Mitchell, and mother Shirley Delisle Mitchell.
Ron’s family would like to send a special thank you to all of the nurses, doctors, and staff at Samaritan Hospital, to Ron’s close friends, neighbors, and to Tony Buchanan and the entire Jimmy’s Pizzeria family for their loving friendship, support, and care for Ron.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life Ceremony.
