Obituary of Esther M. Koepp

Esther Marie May Matthews Koepp, 97, formerly of Stephentown, NY went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush.

 

Born in Newport, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Jesse A. and Helen Barton May and was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire where she earned her BA in education.

 

Esther had been an Elementary School Teacher and Tutor in Public and Private Schools and also did tutoring from her residence.

 

Esther enjoyed knitting on her knitting machines, she even at one time sold handmade knitted sweaters to Macy’s in NYC, she enjoyed her plants—could make anything grow, crocheting and watching the Bible Channel and her kitties, Mango and Bella.

 

Esther and Art were known for their generosity of sharing extra produce with their church families. They enjoyed farming and setting up their summer farm stand which is now The Berry Patch in Stephentown, NY.

 

She had been a current member of the West Stephentown Baptist Church, and Christian Assembly Church in the 1980’s & 1990s.

 

In addition to her parents, Esther was predeceased by her husband William G. Matthews who passed in 1969 and she then married Arthur F. Koepp in 1971, whom she was married for 47 years to, prior to his passing in 2019. Artie and Esther had twins that were stillborn in 1972.  She was also predeceased by sisters; Marion Rose Barton Gregoire and Dorothy Barton Shannon.

 

Survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many great family friends and neighbors, Craig Chamberlain being one of the best friends she was blessed to have known.

 

Graveside service will be celebrated by the Rev. Trygve Tomlinson, Pastor of the West Stephentown Baptist Church on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 12 Noon at the Garfield Cemetery in Stephentown.
