I must say that I was very deeply saddened to learn recently of Rod's passing; he was a gifted musician and a truly unforgettable soul. During the early '80s, I was a keyboard player in the Chaser Band, and was fortunate enough to work closely with Rod (as well as with Chris, Mark, and Jimmy) on a daily basis. The thing that I remember most about working with Rod, though, is that no matter how difficult or crazy things occasionally got, he was a person of fundamental goodwill and generosity of spirit, so his positive outlook helped us all to keep on going and to focus on the music. Looking back almost forty (!) years later, I realize yet again how lucky I was to have been able to work with Rod and the other guys in Chaser Band, and I can only begin to imagine what a tremendous loss his passing has been for so many different people across the Capital region. With that in mind, I send my most sincere condolences to all those who will miss Rod, his inimitable personal style, and the unique spark that he brought to all of our lives, at one point or another, on our respective journeys through life.

Just seeing this obituary now and saddened by the death of Rod Choppy. I remember him from back in the day when Chaser, which one of the best bands EVER, used to play at the Castilian Lounge (which then became Annie's) in Clifton Park. My friends and I were at their shows every time they performed there. I got to know his band mates as well, as after the shows, we would continue the party elsewhere or go out for breakfast. It's hard to believe that was 35 years ago. We were all in our 20's then, and it's hard to believe so much time has passed. He was a phenomenal musician and well back then, really enjoyed playing guitar and being a member of what was one of the best bands in the capital district. Fly high my friend. My deepest condolences to his daughter, his family, and all the Chaser band mates. He truly was an amazing guy who will never be forgotten.

Linda, The loss of your husband, best friend and love is something that no one could ever understand. I will forever remember the shows, the fires, the bad jokes and the love you guys had. No matter where things led you and Rod, you both loved each other to the end and on. You will be together again in Gods most beautiful way, eternally. Love to you and the kids.
Alex, there are no words to help ease the pain of the loss of a parent, your dad loved you so much and anyone who knew him, knew just how much. Someday you will be able to look back on the fun times and smile and tell stories without tears. He will always be with you, protecting and watching over you as you grow into a wife and a mother. Make him proud. Honor him always. A girls first love is her daddy and there is nothing that will ever compare to it. My prayers and condolences to you and your family. Rest In Peace eternally Rod Choppy…

So very sorry and sad to hear of Rod’s passing. I knew Rod from the Chaser Band when he played at the Castilian Lounge where I was an owner. I did most of the band bookings so I dealt with Rod quite a bit. He was a great guy, a gentleman and wonderful representative of the Chaser Band. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Steve and I are so sorry to hear of Rod’s passing. We have a lot of great memories of Rod during our school days, band gigs, and just in our many years of friendship. We may not have seen each other as often as we’d like, but we always reminisced of all our good times together when we did meet up. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
