Obituary of James Michael Donohue

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Greatness can be measured in many ways. Often it is associated with hero type acts, the discovery of medical cures, scientific breakthroughs etc. In the case of James “Jim” Michael Donohue, it was his unparalleled kindness and goodwill that he brought to this world. Jim passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021. He was a kind, generous, loving, and caring man. His greatness expounded in the way he treated others. His strong Christian values and the love of family and friends was unwavering. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him. Jim was born on May 22,1956, the first son of George Donohue Sr. and Anita Senez. He lived the entirety of his life in his hometown of Clifton Park, NY, most recently residing in the Hamlet of Vischer Ferry where his father was born over 100 years ago. His roots run deep in the town, with many local relatives through the large families that lived in the area. He attended Shenendehowa Central Schools graduating in 1976. He was employed by the same school where he worked as a cleaner for 28 years before retiring in 2016. He was a communicant of St. Edwards the Confessor Church and past member of the Vischer Ferry Volunteer Fire Company. He is survived by his brother George Donohue and his wife Karan of Vischer Ferry NY and his two nieces; Jessica (Jason) George of Clifton Park NY and Kelly (Spencer) Gowan of Northfield MA. He is also survived by his grand-nephews Jacob and Zachary and grand-nieces Georgia and Anita, all of whom he adored. It was the highlight of every family gathering when he was with them. He will be missed by the many friends he made at the Vischer Ferry General Store where he was a daily visitor until his health prevented him from coming. The family would like to thank his friends for their kindness and friendship they showed him. The family would also like to thank Eileen Koegler for taking excellent care of Jim over the last year. We could not have done it without you. Finally, to all the friends who continually checked in on him, who prayed for him, and loved him, we thank you. In lieu of donations to an organization, the family asks for you to perform an act of kindness and make the world a better place as he would have done.

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and to the Mass of Christian Burial both at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd., Clifton Park, followed by interment at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Facial coverings, social distancing and capacity limits must be adhered to.
